At her intimate pre-fall show in New York on Wednesday, Carolina Herrera told theTimes that Lincoln Center has "gotten too commercial, too much like a trade show," and that she's considering a change in location for her runway show next season.
Her feelings remind us of those recently expressed by her peer Oscar de la Renta, who famously cut the guest list for his September show considerably, telling WWD in August, "When you do megashows, it loses the reason of why we're showing. It's important for [certain industry professionals] to look at the clothes and see them. They shouldn't have to go through 30,000 people, and 10,000 who are trying to take pictures of all of those people who are totally unrelated to the clothes."
With huge, established names like these pulling out of Lincoln Center - and the new guard of designers like Alexander Wang, Prabal Gurung and Joseph Altuzarra making a habit of showing off-site - we're wondering if IMG's attempts to bring top talent back to Lincoln Center are futile. We guess we'll see come February...
