Dolly Parton Used To Wear Lipstick Made of Poisonous Berries

Do you know what a pokeberry is? Neither did we. Maybe because we didn't spend our pre-teen years smooshing them onto our faces like Dolly Parton did.

In her new inspirational book, Dream More (which is excerpted in DuJour), the over-the-top country legend describes her pre-Dollywood beauty routine, which involved the elusive, apparently non-Pokemon related berry, along with some used matches and a perfume with more than just floral top notes:

"Until I was a teenager, I used red pokeberries for lipstick and a burnt matchstick for eyeliner. I used honeysuckle for perfume. We were raised in the Pentecostal Church of God and they believed that wearing makeup was sinful. My Grandpa Jake, my Mama's dad, was a preacher. So I had to sneak around and make myself look all pretty but then wash it off before they caught me."

Oh and P.S.: According to Wikipedia, pokeberries are toxic. We always knew you were superhuman, Dolly!
