We've all heard the buzz about kale being one of those amazing, ultra-healthy superfoods, right? Well, while it might not be quite time to put down the kale smoothies, a new study proves that you can probably lay off them a little. The research, done by the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention, was meant to reveal the top "powerhouse" foods, or, fruits and vegetables that have strong nutritional densities working at preventing illness and disease. A list of 50 powerhouse fruits and veggies was reported, and kale fell lower on the list than we thought it would.

Ranking below watercress, Chinese cabbage, collard greens, spinach, parsley, and even salad bar-staple Romaine lettuce (!), kale ranks at just #15 on the list of powerhouse fruits and vegetables. We're not just surprised -- we're actually kind of shocked, especially considering how much of a good rap kale gets. We're going to start re-thinking our morning smoothie ingredients ASAP. In the meantime, the fifteen most nutritional powerhouse fruits and vegetables are listed below:

1. Watercress
2. Chinese cabbage
3. Chard
4. Beet green
5. Spinach
6. Chicory
7. Leaf lettuce
8. Parsley
9. Romaine lettuce
10. Collard green
11. Turnip green
12. Mustard green
13. Endive
14. Chive
15. Kale
