Nigella Lawson on Cooking, Beauty, and Eating More Fat

Nigella Lawson is many things: likeable, smart, funny, and of course, beautiful (stunningly beautiful as we found out), but what she's not, is a chef. She made sure to emphasize that when we sat down with her and our friends at Kitchen Daily this week. "I'm not a professional. My daughter always says, mum I get cross when people call you a chef, don't they realize you are a food writer. But I say no I don't really mind, as long as I'm not a chef, I don't mind," Nigella told StyleList.

Arriving in our Noho office wearing a gorgeous grey Donna Karan sheath dress and cream suede pumps, Nigella was flawless. Her skin was glowing and as many of us know, looking that good in the middle of the day is no easy task! Her secret? A nightly beauty routine using the Temple Spa scrub, In The Beginning with olive oil and a mescaline cloth to wash her skin every night, avoiding the sun, and drinking enough water that her doctor actually scolded her for drinking too much. Another secret that may have us all changing the way we eat is that Nigella makes sure she has enough fat in her diet. "I eat a lot of fat, that helps, moisturize from within, I say," Lawson said.

What was most amazing about Nigella Lawson was her ability to tell a story. Maybe it's her years of being a journalist, but her passion for food, healthy living, and happy living is undeniable.

Part of that happiness is her newest adventure, ABC's newest cooking competition, "The Taste." The show, which airs on Tuesday's at 8PM EST takes everyday cooks and gives them one chance to wow four judges who are serious critics in their own right, Anthony Bourdain, Ludo Lefebvre, Brian Malarkey, and of course Nigella Lawson. "I was terrified [when talking about the show], but I think you sometimes have to do things that frighten you and take risks. And I knew if I didn't do it I'd be so cross with myself. I wanted people to learn to taste and to learn from a proper mentor. I saw my job as encouraging rather than instructing," Lawson said.
