Think wearable technology is just a fad? Not if Ralph Lauren has anything to do with it! The iconic American designer will be testing out a new line of sexy, form-fitting nylon tees with a tech-y twist on the ball boys at this year's US Open, which starts today, Monday, August 25th.

While we're used to seeing classic sportswear and pony-adorned polo shirts from Ralph Lauren, this new line of t-shirts will be a little different. The sleek, athletic-style tees will contain hidden, silver-coated threads that will collect data about your heart rate, stress, and breathing levels, and then transmit that information back to dashboards on smartphones and computers.

Starting today, we'll be able to see the new tees in action at the US Open, and we're kind of excited about it. The concept is really cool, and the design is meant to fit seamlessly with your wardrobe. Everyone is exploring wearable tech watches and headbands and looking at cool sneakers," Ralph Lauren SVP of Advertising, Marketing, and Communications David Lauren told The New York Times. "We skipped to what we thought was new, which is apparel. We live in our clothes."

It's a smart concept, when you think about it -- a completely wearable tee that transmits useful information that's easy to obtain, all without being a clunky annoyance. "Ralph Lauren continues to be at the cutting edge of fashion and culture," Lauren stated in a press release. "Our goal is to create and reflect the ultimate lifestyle, and we believe that a healthy and active life is an essential part of that. Ralph Lauren is excited to help lead the industry in wearable technology in this ever-evolving, modern world."

Ralph Lauren may have just proved that wearable technology has serious legs. In the meantime, we've got an extra reason to watch the US Open this year -- besides all the eye candy, of course.
