Have you ever dreamed of a little 'retail therapy' in Carrie Bradshaw's closet? Imagine an endless supply of Jimmy Choos, Prada, and Gucci at your fingertips. While this may be a fictional character in a fictional storyline, shopping in a friends closet isn't out of the realm of possibility.
The newest craze among close friends are called clothing swaps. Sound fun? It's A LOT of fun in fact. Recently, Abby, an editor at StyleList took part in the festivities with a group of twenty somethings in New York City. "It was so fun. Each person picked out clothes they no longer wore, they no longer fit into, or clothes they were looking to get rid of. We separated the clothing into piles, pick numbers and had a blast swapping memories and clothes."
If you're looking to swap clothes with friends there a few helpful tips to get the most out of the experience.
1) Choose items that have been in your closet for more than 6 months. If it's been 6 months and you haven't worn it, give it to the swap.
2) Leave any torn or stained clothes at home. Your friends will thank you.
3) Pick numbers! Keep things fair. That way no one gets angry when you snag the best top in the pile first.
4) Have fun!! If you're with a close group of friends, share stories about clothes. Add a little wine and you all are bound to have a great time.
Swapping clothes is a great way to integrate new pieces into your wardrobe while getting rid of some old (unworn) favorites.
