Move over, Demi's hip. There's a new Photoshop controversy brewing.

But this time, it's the lack of airbrushing that is raising eyebrows. Yep, you read that right -- no airbrushing!

For its February issue, Australia's Marie Claire has put an untouched, nude photo of model Jennifer Hawkins on its cover -- resulting in a war of words over body image, The Age reports.

The controversy stems from the fact that Hawkins -- who reveals minor dimples on her thighs and a crease on her waist -- doesn't represent the average woman, critics complain, according to the paper.

"I'm glad Marie Claire put a photo of that fat cow Jennifer Hawkins on their cover to celebrate women's 'realness," media personality Marieke Hardy reportedly scoffed on Twitter. "LOSE SOME WEIGHT, PORKY."

Radio host Bianca Dye, who recently posed for Australia's Madison magazine to show off her "size 14 thighs and gut," also had harsh words for the magazine, the paper also reports.

"She was born beautiful," Dye reportedly told Confidential. "She has not had to go through any stress to look like that.

"Jackie Frank is one of the most respected editors in the country and I am in shock that they would say Jennifer Hawkins is a natural role model. It's like we've taken 20 steps backwards.

"Are they missing the point? Yes [Hawkins] is lovely, but does that make her a poster girl for positive body image?"

However, the Butterfly Foundation, which is supported by the magazine in its efforts to raise awareness about eating disorders and negative body images has praised the un-Photoshopped cover and its model, the source says.

"The thing is unfortunately it doesn't make the same point, because Jennifer sells magazines and she creates awareness," foundation general manager Julie Parks reportedly told Radio 3AW.

"If Marie Claire had chosen to put on their cover an ordinary women, say myself or a friend of yours, it would not have created the awareness it does.

"It's so excessive in magazines these days and young girls and women are constantly telling us that they don't even know what they're looking at anymore, and what they want to see is more real, untouched and natural photos of celebrities and people in magazines, and I think this delivers that."

In the issue, Hawkins, who was crowned Miss Universe 2004, says, "I'm not a stick figure. I thought it would be great to tell women to just be themselves and be confident."

(We'd cue the violins, but we used them all on Lara Stone's "why being a size 4 makes me a huge fattie" Vogue piece.)

Our two cents: An untouched fashion magazine cover is certainly a step in the right direction, but the choice of a slim model with nary an ounce of cellulite isn't exactly groundbreaking. If you really want to impress us, Marie Claire, you'll follow it up with an untouched photo of a plus-size model. Want us to give you Crystal Renn's number?

Good news, gals. Your man may not bend it like Beckham, look like Beckham, or fill out a pair of undies like Beckham, but he could soon dress like Beckham.

Hunky footballer (alright, alright, soccer player) David Beckham is reportedly designing a menswear line for wife Victoria's successful dVb fashion label, UK's People reports.

Can tight white underpants and sports jerseys be on the horizon?

"David is really into fashion," a source close to Beckham reportedly told the source. "It is a real passion of his so it made sense that he designed his own.

"It is going to be a real money-spinner. He and his team are hoping that it will go global.

"He has had the idea for a while but doesn't want to get too involved until the World Cup is over because that is the big thing for him right now."

Beckham has previously collaborated with Adidas on a fashion collection, and just placed ninth on GQ UK's Best-Dressed List, with 50 Cent cooing that he "always looks good." (Do we detect a bromance?)

With credentials like that, this star athlete might just have what it takes to give the world of men's fashion a much-needed kick in the pants.

Let's just hope he stars in the ads. Hubba hubba!

Marshmallows, cheesecake, soups and soft drinks that promise firmer skin? Welcome to Japan!

Collagen has long been applied from the outside in for fuller, younger looking skin. But in the past few years the Japanese have been hoping it can work the other way around. There, legions of women are eating and drinking the protein in hopes of achieving a skin plumping effects.

First came the supplement drinks -- petite vials of collagen-rich liquid meant to be swallowed along with breakfast. One of the original varieties, Fracora 500 (created by Kowa), packs in 10,000mg of fish collagen in a single serving and has sold a mind-boggling 55,000,000 bottles since its 2004 debut.

Shiseido has a popular version too, called The Collagen. All of the above are sold at the local drug store or online in individual bottles (for an extra boost) or in cases for daily consumption. At roughly $3 a serving, it's not much more than your daily latte.

But what if you could get your latte and your collagen in one? This was the line of thinking that led to the current mania in Japan for "collagen enhanced" food.

Supermarket and convenience store shelves have become stocked with everything from juices and yogurt drinks to marshmallows and cheesecake spiked with the precious (though questionably effective) stuff.

But despite many health and beauty experts stepping in to debunk the benefit claims, the mania continues. Why? "Why not?," is the typical response, just so long as it doesn't do any harm. After all, you were going to reach for those marshmallows anyway, so why not feel like they might have a positive effect?
Restaurants, meanwhile, have turned the trend into a meal.

A quick search on GuruNavi (a Japanese online restaurant guide, the name is short for "gourmet navigation) turns up over two dozen collagen-themed restaurants in Tokyo. Most are located in fashionable districts like Ginza, Roppongi, and Nakameguro.

Harunohi, a collagen restaurant that has now grown to chain status, features a "beauty" lunch set (for under $10). Along with a plate of fresh udon noodles topped with steamed farm fresh vegetable and a soft boiled egg, the main dish is a piping hot bowl of collagen soup. The women flocking to these stylish joints aren't just sucking it up in the name of beauty-the rich, salty broth goes down like a hearty chicken soup on a cold day.

With winter around the corner, restaurants are gearing up to do brisk business in collagen hotpot stews with chunks of pork and chicken. Pigs feet, a traditional delicacy of the Okinawan islands, has likewise come into otherwise unexpected vogue.

The blogosphere has responded to the trend with do-it-yourself collagen recipes from amateurs and celebrity cooks alike.

Want to know how to make that collagen cheesecake yourself? (Here's the spoiler: just add a packet of dried collagen powder to your standard recipe.) On that note, however, the whole fad starts to make sense -- it beauty advice that makes us feel good about our food and actually encourages us to eat more cheesecake.

Are you wearing the right shade of red? Photo: Flickr

Q: I want to wear red lipstick, but have no idea what shade I should buy. Help!

A: It all depends on your skin tone. To determine which shade looks best on you, head to a place where you can try on lots of different red lipsticks from a slew of different brands -- like Sephora, Ulta, or a department store. Bring a piece of white paper, and mark it with three different shades of red you like. The paper will show you the true undertones of each. Fair-skinned women should look for shades with blue undertones, like cherry. Medium-skinned women should look for true reds -- apple or fire engine. Darker-skinned women should look for darker "blood-red."
What's My Best Shade of Red Lipstick - Ask the Editor! originally appeared on StyleList on Thu, 31 Dec 2009 15:24:00 EST. Botox is certainly the beauty vice of the rich and famous but, a cure for the bald? Who knew?

Other than it's primary purpose as a wrinkle relaxer to promise long lasting youth (or frozen features), It seems that Botox is actually the answer to most everything these days, including headaches, sweating, and now baldness!

Botox injections are currently being used to treat alopecia areata, a common disease that results in the loss of hair on the scalp. The toxic in the injections apparently has the power to reduce the activity of some of the chemicals that obstruct hair growth in this disease.

As Telegraph news reported, Dr Simon Ourian, a cosmetic surgeon in Beverly Hills, California, claimed that he was the first to discover the theory while treating his mother who was suffering from migraines after having chemotherapy which had made her hair fall out. Dr Ourian knew that Botox can be used as a headache treatment so he injected the toxin into her scalp and was surprised to find that it also helped her hair to grow back.

The Beverly Hills doc reported testing his 'Botox for the bald' theory on volunteers for three years, making the procedure more effective by adding a mix of different vitamins.

With my patients these Botox vitamin injections for baldness have been very safe and more effective than anything I have seen before," said Dr Ourian.

Now we know why Nicole Kidman has such luscious locks.

It's about time denim prices matched up with skimpier wallets.

Overpriced jeans have fattened the coffers of many a brand, even through the recession, but now this bread and butter category is showing signs of coming down to a more affordable reality, reports WWD.

"Nobody wants ridiculously overpriced jeans," said Lawrence Scott, owner of Pittsburgh Jeans Co. told the source.

"Anything over $300, they're really not interested in it right now. Even in the mid-$200 range, you're on shaky ground. It's going to take a long time to get back to those higher levels."

Hear, hear to that.

Besides thrifty shoppers scouring for deals, the most popular denim over the holidays hovered at price points $100 and below with the teen jeans category taking top honors.

"Teen retailers [were] by far the busiest," said Todd Slater, managing director and specialty retail, apparel and footwear analyst at Lazard Capital Markets.

"We noted that [Aéropostale] had the most traffic post-Xmas, followed closely by Hollister...with Abercrombie & Fitch and American Eagle at similar levels," reports the site.

Luckily, teen queens prefer spending from $21.50 for a pair at Aéropostale to higher end Abercrombie jeans for $49.90.

Before our budgets thank us, luxury denim isn't over at least for one brand. True Religion jeans are still going strong at $170 to a whopping $300 for a pair.

What do you think about this thrifty new trend? Tell us how much you would pay for pair of jeans in a comment below!

Label snobs can keep on spending for those denim dungarees. Dior Homme is offering women's denim for spring.
Affordable Denim is Back originally appeared on StyleList on Thu, 31 Dec 2009 13:00:00 EST. Looking for a little inspiration for your New Year's Resolutions? We asked people around the country to share theirs. Read on for beauty ideas for 2010.

"I WILL STOP BITING MY NAILS"
Ashley Lambright, 20
Plainview TX

My New Years resolution is to stop biting my nails. Now, it's not a very big resolution, but it's small enough to stick to it. You see, for as long as i can remember I have always bitten my nails, and I'm forever jealous of those with long, pretty nails. I could always cheat and get fake nails applied at the salon, but that can cause problems with your real nails -- dents and what-not. So I've decided to just let them grow au naturelle. I am really looking forward to doing this because then I won't have the need for the fake nails, and they will be prettier with any polish on them. By the years end I'm aiming to do my own French manicure -- which will be a great way to save money, too.

"I WILL STOP ABUSING MY HANDS"
Sylvie Branch, 39
Cleveland, OH

My 2010 New Years Resolution is to ditch the band aids and have pretty hands before I turn forty. As a 39 year old artist, my hands are my tools -- and they look the part. No more. This is the year I wear the gloves, moisturize and pamper. I want to be able to keep them out of my pockets when in public. I want to point or pass the salt without contortionist measures. I especially want to stop buying band aids like some women buy nail polish, even when the colors match, the look is childish at best. My simple three step plan involves purchasing quality disposable gloves, nice and tight like a surgeon would wear. Next, use tools as tools, give my nails a break. Finally, place a heavy duty moisturizer next to my studio sink to use after every scrub. Then, as a birthday gift to myself I will schedule a manicure, and keep the appointment. Since my fingers have to hang out in their birthday suit day in and day out, they deserve to be treated right.
"I WILL EMBRACE MY CURLY HAIR"
Sara Masters-Blacksten, 24
Oklahoma City, OK

For more than a decade, I've been in complete denial about having curly hair. I've been flat ironing, and blow frying my hair straight. Well, no more! This year, I'm committing to embracing the hair I was blessed with, and rocking my ringlets! I'm tired of listening to the media bash curls, and tell women that curly hair should be straightened. Curly hair is beautiful and this year, I will respect what I was born with. I don't need to be like everyone else, in fact I don't want to be. I want to be me, and I have curly hair.

"I WILL SHAVE, DAILY"
Rodney Southern, 41
Greensboro, NC

Here in North Carolina you do not hear of good old boys giving out beauty resolutions, but my wife says I am in need of it. She claims that I need to shave on a daily basis, but I am kind of fond of my shadow. Regardless of something ridiculous like my own opinion, I shall bend to the will of my wife and keep my beard stubble to a minimum in 2010. I intend to stick to this beauty resolution by shaving my face each time she shaves her legs. I'll have my shadow back in no time.

"I WILL LOOK PRESENTABLE ON WEEKENDS"
Kim Peiffer, 28
Chicago, IL

For some reason, I can't seem to get it together when it comes to my beauty regime on the weekends. Sure, at night, I get dressed up and do my makeup, but during the weekend days, I'm lucky if I am motivated enough to get a brush through my hair. Whether I'm lounging around the house or out shopping, I always look like a total wreck! And the worst part is, I'm always running into people I know. I tell myself, "ok, I have to start getting it together when I leave the house!" My resolution for 2010 is to develop a regime for the weekends so I actually look presentable Saturdays and Sundays. No, I don't intend to deck myself out in full makeup and fake eyelashes, but a cute, clean and put together weekend look that I can actually stick to is a must for 2010!
"I WILL LOSE WEIGHT BY RUNNING"
Colleen Larson, 47
Chicago IL

What can happen to a 47-year-old woman in menopause? She can put on weight in places where she's never put on weight before. That's what happened to me. However, instead of turning to diet pills or impossible eating plans, my goal is to adopt a running life. Running is one of the best ways to lose weight and to keep it off. I began running in 2009, but it's been on again and off again. The year 2010 is the year I stick to a daily running plan to tackle the stubborn weight that middle aged women face.

"I WILL WEAR SUNSCREEN EVERY DAY"
Monica Patrick, forty-something
Mobile, AL

My main complaint is the spots popping up on my face because of the hot Alabama sun. Every year I pledge to protect my youthful appearance by wearing sunblock to prevent these spots from getting worse. This year, I have a plan. I've decided to use a face moisturizer that already has sunblock in it. That way I don't have to think about protecting my skin. Using a cleanser and moisturizer are already part of beauty regimen. This year, I think I've got it!

"I WILL SMILE IN PHOTOGRAPHS"
Nancy Lichtenstein, 41
Roseland, NJ

It wasn't until I started taking social networking profile pictures that I realized that my mouth naturally turns down at the corners. I also have full lips, so I'm constantly hearing "What's with the pout?" and "Why do you look so sad all the time?" My smile is good thanks to genes and smile brighteners, and I smile a lot in real life, but I thought by keeping a straight face in pictures I was being "mysterious." When my photo prompted a potential suitor to nickname me "Misery Girl," I knew it was time for a change. In 2010 my beauty resolution is to smile more in photos.

"I WILL SHAPE MY EYE BROWS"
Wendy Rose Gould, 24
Indianapolis, IN

I recently learned from a makeup artist that one of the quickest ways to improve my overall look is to change the shape of my eyebrows. While my eyebrows aren't reminiscent of Frida Kahlo's or those of a bushy-eyed lumberjack, I'd still like to make an easy and inexpensive change to my appearance. That's why my 2010 new years resolution is to be more playful with the shape of my brows. Whether that means visiting the salon for regular brow check-ups or temporarily darkening them with a cosmetic pencil, I'm all about keeping my eyebrow resolution throughout the year. Who knows, maybe I'll snag a few extra kisses from my husband!

Plastic surgeons banded together to prevent a tax on nose jobs and other cosmetic surgeries. Photo: Getty Images

The secret's out: Cosmetic surgeons pressured Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to replace the so-called 5% bo-tax on all treatments considered cosmetic surgery with a 10% tanning tax instead.

Cleary, the beauty industry didn't just get mad - they got it done - which insiders say is due to the key support of major medical lobbyists like botox maker Allergen and heavy hitters opposed to the provision like The American Medical Association.

"We suggested that the tanning tax would be a better alternative to the cosmetic tax and hopefully will reduce the incidence of skin cancer down the road," President of the American Academy of Dermatology Association David M. Pariser told The Wall Street Journal.

But taxing perpetually tan people isn't an original idea; Senator Reid's spokesman acknowledged that the tanning tax had briefly been considered before the committee decided to go with the bo-tax instead.

Tanning experts say the bill not only hurts an already beleaguered industry suffering from the current recession, but Congress's estimate of how much the tax will bring in - $2.7 billion over 10 years - is completely off the mark.

"It's almost laughable," says Dan Humiston, President of the Indoor Tanning Association - and owner of 34 salon tanning chains in upstate New York. "We do have a lobbying presence in Washington, but not to the extent of the medical industry," Humiston adds. While the Indoor Tanning Assocation says that basking in ultraviolet light for too long is potentially dangerous, they advocate "responsible" tanning limits on sessions.

Meanwhile, The Skin Cancer Foundation contends that even one tanning booth session doubles your risk of skin cancer - and tanning before the age of 30 increases your skin cancer rate by a whopping 75%.
Cosmetic Surgeons Behind Health Care Bill Tanning Tax originally appeared on StyleList on Thu, 31 Dec 2009 11:50:00 EST.
Looks like Naomi Campbell will have a Happy New Year after all.

Rumors that surfaced last week speculating that the supermodel would be filing for bankruptcy are "completely untrue," a spokeswoman for Campbell tells StyleList.

(Insert sigh of relief here.)

Global fashion newsletter JC Report had first Tweeted the Chapter 11 buzz, with fashion bloggers like Bryan Boy and Catwalk Queen soon picking up the story.

But though the catwalker, who was recently named to the British Fashion Council's Power List, has admitted to "litigation exhaustion," her bank account is doing just fine, her rep says.

Phew. So Naomi -- does that mean the bubbly's on you tonight?

Meanwhile, see what Campbell has to say about racism in the fashion industry.

Naomi Campbell Bankruptcy Rumors 'Completely Untrue' originally appeared on StyleList on Thu, 31 Dec 2009 11:15:00 EST. Angelina Jolie has been looking extra fierce lately. She's been seen around NYC wearing this jet black wig while shooting scenes for her new film, "Salt."

Seeing the star in this hard look again reminds us of her previous persona -- the hard, edgy, blood-wearing, brother-kissing temptress we knew back in 2000.

It's almost hard to remember that the humanitarian mother of -- how many is it now? -- had a dark past. Almost.
The new decade is upon us (can you believe it?!) and we here at StyleList are gearing up for a great year in fashion. We're calling a few trends and events early. Read on for our style predictions for 2010.

FLOTUS Fashion: Bolstered by her new status as a style icon, Michelle Obama expands her fashion comfort zone (literally!), exploring "edgier" outfits like jeggings...and the snuggie. In blue, of course.

Health Care Fallout: Due to the new tanning tax in the Health Care Bill, the tanning bed industry goes bankrupt. This reduces the need for cosmetic surgery, which bites the doctors who prevented the bill's proposed 5% bo-tax (that some called sexist) in the behind.

Karl Lagerfeld looking sharp (but perhaps not for long). Photo: Getty Images

Fat Karl Lagerfeld: His Karlness will fall off the dieting wagon and gain back his "roundness." That's the pot calling the mummy fat!

Taylor is the New Britney: Taylor Momsen will have a major underwear oops. Due to lack of underwear.

Fire Starter: Lady Gaga will perform on-stage dressed in fire. We all think it's brilliant, and Marc Jacobs shows the trend on his fall runway, burning down The Armory and frying fashionable front row hair.

Lindsay Lohan, The Fashion Fiend That Won't Stop: Ungaro's next collection will be a huge hit. Lindsay Lohan will have the last laugh, albeit, while wearing pasties.

Disappearing Models: Models won't (ever) be skinny enough, and a top European fashion magazine will have to resort to featuring stick figures on cover instead.

Brow Wows: Hot on the heels of Spring 2010's bleached brow trend, the uni-brow will be huge on the Spring/Summer 2011 runway. StyleList will run a poll asking, would you ever?

The Great Ginger Revolt of 2010: Angry redheads will band together and create "Kick a Hater" Day and beat up the "Ginger-vitis" throngs and "South Park" creators.

Up-to There: The midriff makes a comeback for Spring/Summer 2010 --- "Jersey Shore" Style. As a result, La Lohan's new and improved 6126 fashion line sells out.

Giselle in Mom Hair, Jeans: Now that Giselle is a Mom, she cuts off her famous locks for something more practical. And she trades in her legions of skinny jeans for their high-waisted predecessors.

Cankle Alert!: Everyone will start having ankle reductions, a la Barbie.
Staff Style Predictions for 2010 originally appeared on StyleList on Thu, 31 Dec 2009 11:00:00 EST.
The FBI warning issued to Detroit-area salons. Download the entire document at ClickonDetroit. Photo: ClickonDetroit

Just weeks before the failed Christmas terror plot at Detroit Metropolitan Airport, the FBI issued an alert to beauty salons and supply stores in the area to be on the lookout for suspicious people buying certain beauty chemicals, Detroit's Local 4 Defenders reports.

Detroit area salon owners are taking serious heed of the warning; many are keeping logs of customers - particularly if what they want to buy is unusual.

"Before we would get the client card for any chemical service like color, perms and things like that, but now we just get it done with every new client," Southwest Detroit salon owner Maria Martinez-Gonzalez tells Local 4.

While Security Expert Ned Timmons doesn't think the warning is linked to the Christmas Day plot, he says it could be part of a larger intelligence plan to find possible terrorists living in the Detroit area.

"If they send flyers out in the Detroit area, it would sound like there is some cause to believe that intelligence originated in the area," Timmons said.

The focus on beauty supply stores as a potential terrorist place of business came to light following the September arrest of Afghan Najibullah Zazi - who tried to buy large quantities of chemicals from a beauty warehouse in Denver. Intelligence officials allege the chemicals could be mixed to create explosives used in terrorist attacks.
Beauty Supply Stores Target of Terror Watch originally appeared on StyleList on Wed, 30 Dec 2009 18:30:00 EST. It used to be that deep pockets and baggy clothing were your best tactics for successful shoplifting. Not that we would know.

But in today's tech-savvy world, physical stealing is so 90s. Retail employees have gotten stealthy, using more creative electronic measures to cheat their companies out of cash.

The New York Times reports that gift cards are now one of the trendiest ways to shoplift.

Here's how it works: Cashiers do fake merchandise refunds, and electronically divert the amount refunded to gift cards, which they then take.

More mean-spirited cashiers take advantage of the shoppers too: When clients buy gift cards, they'll give them blank cards and then divert the shoppers' money onto cards for themselves. Talk about a Grinch!

"The retail industry has come to the realization that, as the Pogo comic strip said, 'We have met the enemy, and he is us,' " said Richard C. Hollinger, a professor of criminology at the University of Florida told The Times.

In this day and age of computers tracking everything (we're convinced ours is watching us now) it's amazing to us that this scheme actually works.

Isn't there an app for that?

Is Tiger Woods secretly recovering from plastic surgery? Photo: AFP/Getty Images

By now, you've heard about the Tiger Woods marital problems that came to light after a Thanksgiving day car crash.

Or else, perhaps you've been hiding under a rock for the past month?

Woods has been hiding, too. Which makes sense, given that his name has been in the news just about everyday since as several women have come forward to claim they had relationships with him.

But now an alleged email is making the rounds of the Web, claiming that he's hiding while recovering from plastic surgery to repair a gash in his face, supposedly made by his enraged wife, Elin Woods. Retired sports journalist Furman Bisher posted it on his Web site last week, and several blogs have picked it up to speculate on various sections.

The email says it is based on an account of a friend of a friend who knows Mark Steinberg, Woods' agent. Steinberg has denied the account.

Snopes.com and E! Online both have done teriffic breakdowns of the email, looking at what might be true, what might be false. Overall verdict: Probably some fact and a lot of fiction.

Still, it's amazing that while the Tiger Woods story clearly has lots of juicy details and rumors, the latest is about, of all things, plastic surgery! As a beauty and style site, we find this pretty interesting.
Tiger Woods Plastic Surgery Rumor; Who Saw That Coming? originally appeared on StyleList on Wed, 30 Dec 2009 16:45:00 EST. Spikes, studs, and sequins may have hit the runway this fall, but we're forecasting paper as the new "it" accessory on the upcoming catwalks. Since green is the new black, it's a darn good means for designers to recycle all that wasted printer paper.

Exhibit A: Refinery29 found these elegantly sculpted headpieces from Paper-Cut Project, created by artists Amy Flurry and Nikki Salk, which will go on display in 2010 at fashion-favorite retailer Jeffrey in New York and Atlanta.

The recession drove the the Atlanta-based twosome to paper for its low cost, and we're predicting that fashion designers may do the same. If these origami-style hats are any indication, paper accessories can have all the design flounce and impact of their sturdier counterparts.

Philip Treacy, watch your back!

And as for the paper cuts you'll inevitably suffer from while donning these crisp creations?

It's fashion, dahling. No pain, no gain.

The usually glam Jennifer Lopez turned heads (for the wrong reasons) in a poorly fitted denim jumpsuit at the Miami Dolphins game this past Sunday -- which means she's either raided Dolly Parton's closet circa 1976 or hasn't realized that "Hee Haw" is no longer on the air.

Though the Daily Mail claims that the all-in-one outfit "hugged J.Lo's famous curves in all the right places," we think this denim dud illustrates just how tricky the jumpsuit trend can be to pull off (not to mention trying to use the bathroom).

So what do the experts say?

"For winter, jumpsuits are a great way to update your wardrobe and are also perfect for all those lazy dressers -- all you need is a one-piece," says Ashlan Gorse of E! News.

"But sometimes jumpsuits can be very tricky to pull off if you don't get one that fits you right or have the right accessories."

Case in point? Rihanna, who looks "sophisticated and fresh," according to Gorse, thanks to her chic accessories and closed-toe pump. Molly Sims, meanwhile, made a fashion faux pas in her jumpsuit because, as Gorse notes, "her tall model frame is cut off by the wide pants."

We know what you're thinking -- if a supermodel can't work this trend, what chance have the rest of us got?

There, there. StyleList turned to fashion expert Jeannie Mai, host of "How Do I Look?" and correspondent for "Extra," for tips on wearing jumpsuits to perfection.

1. Look for jumpsuits with a blend of spandex or silk. These fabrics are more forgiving to skim the body, and portray a more elegant and fresh appeal than the structured jumpsuits of yesterday.

2. Find a jumpsuit that is thin in fabric so that it doesn't create a boxy shape to your figure, and can be worn layered with pieces for warmth, or decorated with key jewelry and heels for spring.

3. Get professionally fitted for a terrific strapless bra (if needed). Otherwise be sure your bra cups are filled properly by adjusting the straps.

4. Don't buy jumpsuits that are heavy in fabric. Jumpsuits can immediately pack on the pounds if it doesn't skim the body.

5. Have the jumpsuit hemmed with your desired heels on.

6. Purchase a size where the key areas (bust, waist, hips or in the hem) do not bunch or drag.

7. At the same time do not buy jumpsuits that pull or restrict your body from moving! Buying too small could, too, make your figure appear larger.

8. Depending on the weather, jumpsuits can be worn alone or paired with thick cropped jackets to soft dainty cardigans. Add ankle or knee-high boots for warmth, and strappy sandals for summer and spring.
