2012 Golden Globes: What's With All These Stars' Smushed Boobs? (PHOTOS)

HuffPost Social Reading

Nude hues, mermaid trains and sparkling fabrics were among the more gorgeous trends I saw on the 2012 Golden Globes red carpet.

But call me old-fashioned, there is one evening gown look I can't wrap my head around: smushed boobs.

While everyone was busy staring at Madonna's ripped biceps, I couldn't get past the way her chest looked like two flat pancakes. And yes, Jessica Alba was stunning in Gucci, but that neckline looked a size too small. Perhaps stylists believe that a tighter bust will make women appear as though they are a cup size larger, but all I see is a wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen.

Below, a roundup of the best and worst strapless dresses from the 2012 Golden Globes. See which stars looked stunning and which ones just looked smushed:

The women you considered "smushed" are the ones with more "boobage" or muscle tone, or both. Cup size has a lot to do with how you look in a strapless dress. Other than Madonna's case, I didn't notice what you were talking about.

I say: "Let's put the dress (Madonna's) on each and every one of you....see how it looks then. I find it both strange and amusing, now that Madonna is coming back into the spotlight (new movie, new album, superbowl performance)...everyone has an opinion (usually negative) about what she is doing, wearing, saying (in which tongue)....for Christs' sake. She is one of the few "living legends" we have. Then, you all sit around wondering why they die at such a young age.? Not this one!!! I think that's what most of ya'll hate about her......she's still here....and still has your attention!!!!!

i think they must be making a statement about the breast cancer tragedy and how devastating it is to women.
So in a sign of solidarity they all go with the masecomy survivor look in support of those women showing them "you can be beautiful without big boobs".
Wow, how touching that they all dressed to support that.
or designers needed a new look so welcome 2012 end of the world coming and depreciating boobage.

I agree with most of these comments, there's an entire lack of chest's in these pic's. These were all completely smushed" in" dresses, not visible at all and maybe only two of the stars were smushing them "out". This aticle itself has a poor description, it should be, "Where did the b**bs go?" Anyone agree???

Katherine mcphee needs some color she is too white for that dress whats up with the penelope ann miller dress.and as for jodie foster, the dress does nothing for her. of course everyone has an opinion about something. if everyone's taste was the same what would we talk about. jessica alba is the only one smashed.

That color on Paula Patton is brutal.

I guess the only way they can achieve clevage is to smush them. Madonna's are a little extreme! LOL

I didn't think many of them looked "smushed," honestly.

"Hmm..." indicates deep thought, I guess.

the only one who looked smushed is madonna and she's worn that look before it looks rather painful
i guess keeping her bobs and check and remembering to try to sound posh instead of slipping into her regional accent is too much for her........
ps-madge ...or are u still going by that name now that u r not officially trying to be british-or wearing ugly dowdy floral dress writing books about english roses of which you are not! the accent is still there---yr original one that is---just slimes right in

oooh.... mschievly... scathing !, whats the matter, Bad Day ? i would love to see a hot mud pit, with Madonna and Yourself, wrestling out all that pent up Angry Female energy.... it makes much more sense than trying to deal with your animosity in a silly Blog, Don't you think ? i bet you would Kick her Butt !
01:28 AM on 01/19/2012
thats cute it lucha libre ---its on !
don't think she wld be as kick ass as when she was young---too much work on her face---she'd want to protect that!

I think you're objecting to cleavage.

It's as if the best rating you'd give would be for a turtleneck shirt.

I think the objection is to cleavage under unnatural pressure.

Oh, you're referring to the current degree of popularity in wearing a strapless dress?

This is really quite different than 'smushed boobs'.

Only a couple sets of breasts there seemed to be in need of a hostage negotiator.

I thought Nicole Kidman looked great. No smush attempt.
09:34 PM on 01/18/2012
The smooshed boob look has been on the red carpet for about 10 years. It just looks like the dress is too small! A fitted bustline looks much better (like Nicole Kidman's).
