Sleepy Jones was created late at night in a half dream just months ago. My partners, Anthony and Chad, and I had been looking at photographs of the people we admire – artists, writers, designers, and musicians – and noticed that most wore what was comfortable, stylish and easy. Sometimes they wore pajamas; sometimes they wore very little at all. Plimpton was known to roam the Paris Review office in boxers and Picasso churned out masterpieces in little more than shorts and a robe.
We realized the value that being comfortable had for the people we admired and came up with the idea to start a sleepwear and not-quite-ready-to-wear brand that women and men could wear to sleep, to work, to lounge, and to play in. It’s all about the movement of non-movement and taking the time to let your mind wander.
We are telling you that it is okay to unplug and get inspired, to let your mind wander.
Pajamas and underwear seem to have been left behind as clothing design has evolved. To replace the boring basics typically worn for lounging, we made pajamas, shirts, socks and underwear that are classic, comfortable and stylish so you can loosen up, kick back, and simply think. Sleepy Jones can be your uniform for eating breakfast in bed, building blanket forts with your kids, running Sunday errands, writing your novel and everything in between. Really, how many great works of art were created in three-piece-suits?
