I'm currently at 35,000 feet, in the middle of the night, somewhere between New York and Los Angeles, which is where I feel like I spend the most time these days. I'm heading to a Wall Street Journal event where I'm sitting on a panel, then off to a photo shoot with Time Magazine in our TriBeCa shop followed by a quick train to Philly for a live airing on QVC. After all that, I'm racing back to San Francisco for a Fortune magazine event honoring their "40 under 40." If someone told me I would be one of them, as well as overseeing a company with 2,000 people that I started I would have said "you are out of your mind."

Drybar was always meant to be my one little shop in Brentwood and a way for me to make a nice living. I had it all figured out - I could run a small shop myself while raising my two little boys and still be a pretty good wife to my husband Cam who's now Drybar's Creative Director. Well, you know what they say about making plans...

My family would tell you I was a late bloomer, while my big brother and mentor, Michael (Drybar co-founder) was the over-achiever of the family.

Today, four years later, we have over 33 locations coast to coast and a full line of styling products and tools sold exclusively in Drybar, Sephora and QVC and we are on track to do over $40 million in revenue! To say I feel incredibly lucky and blessed is an understatement. My family would tell you I was a late bloomer, while my big brother and mentor, Michael (Drybar co-founder) was the over-achiever of the family. I take no offense to being called a late bloomer, it's the truth. It took me a long time to get here and more importantly to figure out what made me happy and fulfilled. I was fortunate enough to have parents who let me explore many interests and passions and gave me the confidence and perseverance to get out there and find my own way. I don't think any of us knew that making the decision to go to beauty school when I was 21 years old would essentially turn into Drybar almost 20 years later, but in retrospect, it's so clearly what I was meant to do. 

Ever since I was little girl I have loved the way it felt to have my curly, crazy frizzy hair tamed into straight perfection. And nothing gives me the same confidence that an amazing blowout does. It was that personal insight, combined with a big hole in the market (I hated overpaying for blowouts at traditional salons or going to icky discount chains) that led me starting Drybar. If I could give one piece of advice to aspiring entrepreneurs it would be to follow your passion, look to improve or reinvent something that you know and care about personally, and try to surround yourself with people you can trust and enjoy working with.
