Actress

Growing up, I always had an appreciation for costumes. My grandmother and grandfather both had great senses of style; their closet was filled with the most amazing vintage pieces. I used to play “dress up” for hours, mixing and matching my grandmother's dresses with fabulous shoes and beautiful accessories. I feel like part of my job today is playing dress-up and it's just one more reason I love it so much.

As an actress, I am lucky enough to work with a brilliant group of hair, make-up and wardrobe professionals. They have harnessed my dress-up training and turned it into a sense of style, which is just so much fun to cultivate. I get excited about trying new products and styles; in fact, I love the entire process of creating a “look.” I didn't even know that was a 'thing' until three years ago, even though I’ve been pulling clippings from magazines for far longer.

I feel so lucky I get to keep playing “dress up” as an adult. I mean, really, what could be better than that?

Probably because I’m a student by nature, I approach my personal style in an almost academic way. I have a “look book” that I am constantly updating and poring over with my team. I have had it for years now. I love to cut out magazine pages with great outfits, hairstyles or make-up and paste them into my look book so I can show my team when we are discussing a look for a particular event. I guess it's a physical version of Pinterest?

Another thing I’ve realized is that even if the look is perfect, if my skin is breaking out, I won't feel confident. I’ve learned how essential it is to have healthy-looking skin. That’s why I’m so excited to be a brand ambassador for Simple Skincare, a new line of facial skincare products that’s perfect even for sensitive skin like mine. Like Simple, I’m a believer in a holistic approach to skincare, which is about more than just what products you use. It’s also about paying attention to what you eat, how much you exercise and even how stressed you are when working because it can all take a toll on your skin.

So there you have it – my life-long love of fashion, beauty and style in a nut-shell.  But I guess what it all comes down to is this: I feel so lucky I get to keep playing “dress up” as an adult. I mean, really, what could be better than that?
