FASHION FOR EVERYONE
If you saw a photo of me growing up in North Carolina, you would not expect I would end up working in the fashion and entertainment industries. As a kid and into my teens, I had little interest in clothes and make-up, instead focusing on my family, being outside, building forts, quite frankly- getting my hands dirty! It wasn't until I became a model and moved to New York that my interest in fashion was piqued and I came to understand the industry which has become like a family to me.
THAT'S WHAT IS SO GREAT ABOUT FASHION RIGHT NOW, IT'S TRICKLING DOWN INTO EVERYTHING AROUND US.
Though I work in the industry, in no way do I consider myself a fashionista. I won't sacrifice comfort to squeeze myself in a shoe three sizes too small, I prefer tom-boyish over tantalizing. But in the years working in fashion and film, I've learned to have fun with fashion. Style is a way to creatively express who you are and what you're feeling at that moment. It doesn't have to be consistent (who has the same personality and temperament all the time). I'm still figuring out my own style. I can wear a pair of jeans, some slouchy boots and a t-shirt running from audition to audition then a fitted gown to a party later that night, they're both still me.
Designer fashion has become a source of inspiration for my everyday dressing. I may borrow the silhouette from a Rag & Bone fashion show look, but re-create it with basics from Target (I'm a regular bullseye shopper) and a fun accessory I purchased on my travels abroad. I may re-create the color palette at the Joseph Altuzarra show in my eye make-up for a night out on the town. The stones and mixed metallics used by Dannijo may spark the theme for the table setting at an intimate dinner party I'm hosting. That's what is so great about fashion now, it's trickling down into everything around us.
More and more, through the internet and a changing industry, fashion is becoming more inclusive. I'm proud to be a part of that. I'm an avid fashion and home blog follower and I love that an image can spark a bit of inspiration on an ordinary day. People are celebrated for breaking the mold and going against the grain, for individuality and their own interpretation of fashion. As my mother, a very beautiful woman, and the epitome of cool would say: 'I would never want to be in a club that doesn't want me as a member.'
