When I decided to write my new book ‘Brunette Ambition’ I knew I had a unique story to tell. Writing this book tells the story of how I got to where I am today. I hope my book inspires young women to follow their dreams no matter what the nay-sayers tell you and makes you realize that anything you want to accomplish in life is possible.
Since I was 8-years-old, I’ve worked on Broadway. My childhood dream had come true when I landed the role of Cosette in Les Miserable. Once I got to Broadway, it was the values instilled in me by my mother and father that made the stage my home forever.
During my time with Les Mis, I learned from a very young age the importance of optimism and never giving up.
After I literally outgrew the role, I joined the cast of Ragtime from 1996-1999, then Fiddler on the Roof, and Spring Awakening in 2008. It was during workshops for Spring Awakening that I met my best friend Jonathan Groff. Jonathan has been through more ups and downs with me than anyone else and he was actually the reason I auditioned for Glee. Jonathan was filming a TV pilot with Ryan Murphy in LA. I was visiting at the time and went to Chateau Marmont with Jonathan and Ryan, where I spent the night telling Ryan how I love and admire Barbra Streisand. The rest is history…
My new book is part memoir, part how-to, and part style guide. I share tips on fitness, food, fashion, and more, all things I love and I know you’ll love too. From the perfect hair masque to a recipe for vegan grilled cheese, this book has something for everyone. I am so excited to share it with you all!
I am also thrilled to be StyleList’s guest editor for the week and can’t wait to share with you a few insider secrets, fashion tips, and more from my book.
