ALL THE ESSENTIAL NY FASHION WEEK COVERAGE - MAKE THE BEST LOOKS YOURS
New York Fashion Week is here, and models are storming the runways with autumn's most covetable looks. Even on Day 1, we certainly noticed a few overarching themes trending at several shows.
One of the biggest highlights was leather - and lots of it. From oversize jackets at BCBG Max Azria to simple separates at Rachel Comey, leather was everywhere. Invest now in a great leather jacket or sleek pair of pants - the fabric isn't going anywhere come fall.
Another trend we spotted was an easy, classic pairing of black and white. BCBG Max Azria paired black furs with sheer white dresses, while Timo Weiland integrated the color combo into a preppy plaid print dress.
The most refreshing theme of the day were the slits we spotted on skirts and dresses everywhere, from Richard Chai to Kimberly Orvitz, to BCBG Max Azria again. Sensible long and midi-length skirts were made sexy again with a up-to-there slits down the middle and up the sides. You'll be hard-pressed to find a basic skirt this fall - slits are it.
