"I have always found a woman's body to be especially beautiful ... I was drawn to fashion design as it is my passion to create garments that enhance and flatter the female form." – Jason Wu
Jason Wu is a name that many may not have known before one very important evening in January of 2009. When Michelle Obama wore a white Jason Wu gown to her husband's first Inaugural Ball, Wu became a household name.
Jason Wu moved to Vancouver with his family when he was 9, where he learned to sketch, draft patterns, and sew. He spent part of his youth in Tokyo and Paris, and this fashion capital sealed the deal: he would pursue a career in fashion design.
When Wu was accepted to Parsons School of Design, he moved to New York City and launched his first Ready-to-Wear collection in 2006.
With his first line, he established a feminine yet modern sensibility, and has been dedicated since day one to creating pieces that not only look beautiful, but are well made. Over 85% of his clothes are manufactured in the Garment District of New York City, placing a great emphasis on quality of craftsmanship.
Jason Wu is a mere 28 years old and is already widely known for his womenswear, debuted a line in 2012 for Target, and most recently launched "Miss Wu" at Nordstrom. He has reached celebrity starlets and everyday women alike, and having been endorsed by Michelle Obama (by wearing not just one but TWO of his gowns for Inaugural festivities) there is nowhere to go for this designer but up, up, up.
