There's been a dearth of color on faces and fingers on NYFW runways this season–except for one place: The eyes. Are you ready for the return of blue eye makeup? Because that's happening.

If the thought of blue eye makeup conjures up visions of teased hair and "Frankie Says Relax" t-shirts, you can stop hyperventilating. Altuzarra, Kate Spade, Monique Lhuillier, Rebecca Minkoff, Peter Som, Catherine Malandrino, Tibi, Ohne Titel, and Alice & Olivia all dipped into blue eyes for spring. But it's not that 80s-defining swipe of shocking baby blue all the way up to the brow bone this time around. It's mint, turquoise, teal, blue green, electric blue, cobalt, navy, and ocean blue. It's also not just being used as a shadow–we've seen it as a winged out eyeliner, layered on top of a jet black eyeliner, and gently dotted as an accent in tearduct corners. The versatility with which we've seen it being used means that this is one runway trend that is actually wearable, making us rethink that "Don't wear blue eyeshadow" rule.

However, like print mixing and using heat styling tools, there are a few guidelines you should follow for best results (and the least amount of ridicule from passersby). Luckily we've been skulking around backstage for the last five days with access to some of the best makeup artists in the world.
