Fashion for Haiti: One Million Hearts
Designer Donna Karan is known for many things including her all-American designs, unique statement jewelry, and classic style. As we found out last night, Karan's other focus is her philanthropy, Urban Zen. Urban Zen is a foundation Karan founded in 2007 that aims to raise awareness, inspire chance, preserve culture, and empower the children - of Haiti. Following the devastating earthquake that ravished the country in 2010, Karan focused her foundation on the small country desperate for help.
Now, in an effort to raise money and awareness, Karan has enlisted the help of nearly 150 CFDA designer including Vera Wang, Prabal Gurung, Ralph Lauren and many more to design and create customized papier-mâché hearts to be auctioned off on Ebay from April 22 until May 2nd. The hearts themselves embody each designers individual style. Badgley Mischka's heart is embroidered with detailing synonymous with their coveted wedding gowns, while Rebecca Taylor's is designed with hues of grey sequins cascading down the heart.
All proceeds will benefit the Haitian Artisan Project, which strives to rebuild Haiti by highlighting its talented artists, creating jobs, promoting economic development, and raising social consciousness. If you are interested in bidding on one of these gorgeous hearts, visit Ebay.com on April 22nd to bid.
