Watching the stars walk the red carpet before the 85th Annual Academy Awards, we're pretty sure we saw the future of awards show fashion.

Some of our favorite stylish red carpet fixtures like Naomi Watts and Halle Berry turned out in dazzling metallics and futuristic designs. Sweeping lines, galactic designs, and serious sparkles were major themes of the night. No matter which way we turned, we couldn't get away from the shimmering styles worn by many of the night's biggest stars. It looks like this is a trend that might have some staying power.
