When Michael Kors began designing clothing in a small boutique across from Bergdorf Goodman, he dreamed of someday selling his clothes in the store across the street. When he was discovered by Dawn Mello, former fashion director at Bergdorf, his dream became a reality.

In 1981, Kors launched his Michael Kors womenswear line at several upscale department stores. From there, he became the Creative Director for the French fashion house Celine, catapulting the company into a critically acclaimed ready-to-wear and accessories design house. In 2003, Kors left Celine to focus on his own brand, having launched menswear in 2002.

From handbags to ready-to-wear apparel, Michael Kors has become a staple not only for celebrities but for everyday women. His designs represent the modern woman in a way that few have been able to capture before. His success and personality have made him a household name with fashion-lovers everywhere.
