It is clear to see this season's go-to hue is Oxblood. Likewise, what is clear to hear is that the name is not so pleasant. Thus, I offer an alternative moniker for the saturated blue-red shade inspired by my two-week stay in the French countryside just outside of Bordeaux. It is well, Bordeaux, of course.
Le Chateau Haut Goujon is a place blissfully oblivious to trend, where men wear workwear out of functionality, not fashion, and I felt overdressed for lunch in a sundress. Never did my feet enter an elevated heel nor did I really ever put on makeup. Yet, I was surrounded by inspiration, for fashion's must-have color abounded. From the berries in the vineyards to the wine swiveled at every meal, I couldn't help but imagine how beautifully this shade of rich red would revitalize an autumn wardrobe normally filled with black, grey and navy.
Luckily, the industry has followed suit offering infinite options for injecting Bordeaux (err, Oxblood) into your wardrobe. The hue is particularly dramatic in leather and styles perfectly with any print most, especially leopard and houndstooth. Check out investment pieces such as a statement bag by Alexander Wang or leather legging by Helmut Lang. Or simply test it out in the beauty realm with a sultry 90's inspired lipstick or nail polish. It is sure to inspire a Bordeaux binge.
